  • Minoxidil (Minoxytop) is prescribed for the management of androgenetic alopecia, commonly referred to as pattern hair loss in adults.

    Manufacture: Healing Pharma Pvt. Ltd.

Minoxidil, originally developed as an oral medication for high blood pressure, has become a cornerstone treatment for hair regrowth. While the topical version is more common, low-dose oral Minoxidil is increasingly prescribed by dermatologists for its effectiveness and convenience.

    HOW IT WORKS

Active Ingredient is Minoxidil. It is a vasodilator. It widens blood vessels and opens potassium channels, allowing more oxygen, blood, and nutrients to reach the hair follicles. It shortens the resting phase (telogen) and extends the growth phase (anagen), leading to longer, thicker hair strands.

    HOW TO TAKE

Dosage must be strictly managed by a healthcare provider, as 5 mg is often considered a higher dose for hair loss (which usually starts at 0.625 mg to 2.5 mg). Take the tablet at the same time every day to maintain steady levels in your system. It can be taken regardless of meals.

    MISSED DOSE

If you miss a dose, skip it and continue with your next scheduled dose. Never take two doses at once to make up for a missed one.

    SIDE EFFECTS

Because oral Minoxidil enters the bloodstream, it has a more systemic effect than the foam or liquid.

Some patients may experience hypertrichosis (unwanted hair growth on their face/body); edema (swelling of their ankles or feet); lightheadedness or dizziness; tachycardia (rapid heartbeat); initial shedding (temporary loss of old hair); chest pain or difficulty breathing; headache; sudden weight gain.

    WARNING AND PRECAUTIONS

If you have a history of heart disease, arrhythmias, or congestive heart failure, consult a cardiologist before starting.

Since it is a potent vasodilator, it may lower your blood pressure. Monitor for fainting or orthostatic hypotension (dizziness when standing up).

Be prepared for increased hair shedding in the first 2–6 weeks. This is a sign the medication is working to replace old hairs with new ones.

Hair grows slowly. Significant visible results typically take 3 to 6 months of continuous use.

Always inform your doctor if you are taking other medications for blood pressure or diuretics (water pills), as they can interact with Minoxidil.
